Our People Make the Difference

Our management team has a formidable breadth and depth of experience in the field of medical professional liability insurance. Each team member brings a special expertise to the mix, along with a thorough knowledge of the New Jersey medical climate and marketplace. These professionals are dedicated to the NJHPIX mission of building long-term relationships with the physicians we insure, and they work to accomplish that goal every day. The following individuals are some of the members of that team:

Thomas S. Gaudiosi, Chief Executive Officer: Mr. Gaudiosi has been a risk management consultant, a professional liability insurance consultant and a senior executive with Pennsylvania Medical Society Liability Insurance Company ("PMSLIC"). His responsibilities with PMSLIC included marketing and design of professional liability insurance and the marketing and management of PMSLIC's unbundled services including risk management, claims management, underwriting and continuing medical education. Mr. Gaudiosi has been in the medical malpractice and risk management field for more than 25 years.

Karl L. Detweiler, Executive Vice President of Operations: Mr. Detweiler has over 25 years of insurance experience in the areas of claims, policyholder service and medical malpractice underwriting. He was formerly the Vice President of Underwriting at both PMSLIC and Mutual Insurance Company of Arizona and was Senior Underwriter with Medical Protective.

Mark Etter, M.D., Senior Vice President, Risk Management: Dr. Etter is the chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Abington Memorial Hospital and the former chairman of the board of Infinity/RiskCare, a risk management company. He is responsible for overseeing the risk management process and policies for the AIF.

D. Scott Jones, CHC, Vice President - Compliance and Risk Management: Mr. Jones is a former acute care hospital administrator, large medical practice administrator and is a nationally board certified Healthcare Compliance Officer.  He is the author of a dozen nationally published books on risk management, compliance and quality improvement and a frequent speaker to state, regional and national health care organizations. He has developed innovative patient safety-focused, hands-on risk management programs for health care organizations, physician groups, medical malpractice companies, onshore and offshore captives and risk retention groups.

Donald Price, Chief Financial Officer:  Mr. Price is a certified public accountant with over 30 years of experience, beginning with 10 years at a Big 4 accounting firm, 17 years as CFO of an A++ rated insurance group, 3 years in his own risk management practice and 3 years as Chief Risk Officer of a national life and health insurer and asset manager.

Pat Bruno, Underwriting Manager: Mr. Bruno has 25 years of underwriting experience in Medical Liability and Multiple Lines. He began his career with St. Paul Insurance Company and dedicated the last 20 years to underwriting and management at Princeton Insurance Company.

Toni A. Rader, Operations Coordinator: Mrs. Rader brings 25 years of experience in the insurance industry to NJHPIX. Having worked for both St. Paul and Princeton Insurance Company, she established a  background in Underwriting, Product Development and Insurance Company Compliance and Regulation, and provides an array of services to the organization.

Robert J. Marcavage, Vice President - Information Technology: Mr. Marcavage has more than 15 years of insurance technology experience. Prior to joining the AIF, he was employed by both PMSLIC and the Glatfelter Insurance Group as Director of Information Technology.

Todd A. Rittle, AIC, Vice President - Claims: Mr. Rittle has more than 20 years of Professional Liability and General Liability experience, with over 15 years in Health Care Liability. He holds the designation of Associate in Claims from the Insurance Institute of America. He also holds a BS in Biology-Vertebrate Physiology Concentration. Prior to joining the AIF, he was employed by a national third party administrator and served as Account Executive/ Claim Manager for a number of large accounts including a national drugstore chain, a health care liability insurer and the PA Professional Liability Joint Underwriting Association.
